Rebecca Latham’s Statements
Upon receiving the news of her MVP recognition, Latham shared her excitement and gratitude:
“I am really excited and happy about this recognition. I feel truly grateful, and I deeply appreciate the coaching staff. They have been essential in my development.”
The trust placed in her by coach Fernando, along with the support of her teammates, has been key to her success this season. “The support from Luna, Hugo, and the entire team has been incredible. I am so thankful for this honor.”
Regarding her arrival in the league, Latham admitted she had no major expectations but found an environment that fostered her growth. “Fernando has helped me a lot, and the confidence I have received from the coaching staff and management has allowed me to play my best volleyball.”
When asked about the key to her success this season, Latham emphasized teamwork and dedication. “Our team has worked hard from the start, always staying focused on our goals. María Clara is extremely talented, and her performance made it easier for me to play freely, while also learning a lot from her.”
She also highlighted the importance of having an experienced coaching staff: “Fernando and Jesús have a great deal of experience, and that has helped me tremendously. They have allowed my skills as a player to shine without putting pressure on me, which has helped me play with confidence.”
Regarding the challenges she faced this season, Latham revealed that rebuilding her confidence was the most difficult part. “At first, it was tough. I arrived with little confidence, but I gradually regained it thanks to the support of my team. There were difficult moments, but I told myself I wasn’t going to give up easily.”
She confessed that at one point, she considered quitting volleyball, but the encouragement from those around her kept her going: “Last year, I thought about retiring. My boyfriend told me I shouldn’t leave like that, that I should have a strong season before making a final decision. I trusted God throughout the process, and even now, I still have days where I struggle with confidence. But I went from zero confidence to feeling much better.”
Dedication of the Award
“I dedicate this award to God because I wouldn’t be here without Him. I have faced difficult situations, but I have always kept my faith, and God has shown me that if I keep going, He will lead me to great things.”
“I know God is not finished with me yet, so I will continue to trust in Him and dedicate this award to Him.”
The Semifinal Series Against Caguas
With the semifinal series at 3-2 in favor of the Criollas, Latham highlighted the quality of their opponent and the effort these matches require.
“Caguas is a really strong team, and they won’t hand us victories—we have to earn them. We have been fighting hard, and I think our efforts throughout the season are showing now more than ever.”
She recognized that at this stage of the tournament, physical exhaustion is a significant factor, but emphasized that the team that overcomes fatigue will prevail. “All teams are feeling tired, but the one that pushes through exhaustion and stays focused will come out on top.”
Although this is her first playoff experience, she embraces the challenge and enjoys the pressure that comes with it: “I’ve never been in this position before, but I love the excitement and competitiveness of these crucial matches. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity.”
Finally, Latham expressed her enthusiasm for the remainder of the series and reaffirmed her commitment to giving her best effort for her team.
“Thank you for this recognition. It’s truly an honor.”
